Corse-Du-Sud Floods Sweep Car off Coastal Road
Floodwaters swept a car carrying three people off the RT10 road between Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio, in Corse-du-Sud, France, around 1 a.m. local time Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, franceinfo reported. Two of the occupants were later found dead inside the vehicle, and the third was rescued and flown by helicopter to a clinic in Porto-Vecchio, the prefecture of Corse-du-Sud said.
France's national weather agency, Météo-France, placed Corse-du-Sud under an Orange rain-flood warning in effect from 8:10 a.m. local time Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, until midnight. Orange is one step below the agency's highest level, red, which Météo-France reserves, for rain and flooding, for very heavy rain expected to affect human activity and economic life for several days, with very significant flooding possible even in areas rarely flooded, across the entire hydrological network of the departments concerned. As of 08:14 UTC on Nov. 6, 2026, the warning told people in the area to stay away from rivers and low ground, reach high ground or shelter upstairs, and not drive on a flooded road "even if it is only partially so."
By Friday morning, Météo-France had recorded 150 to 250 millimeters of rain across Corse-du-Sud since Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2026, locally up to 300 to 350 millimeters on higher ground, with a peak of 283 millimeters at Conca, franceinfo reported.
