A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 25 kilometers east-northeast of Port-Olry, on Vanuatu's Espiritu Santo island, at a depth of 116 kilometers, at 02:24 UTC (1:24 p.m. local time) on Oct. 25, 2026, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A separate magnitude 6.9 earthquake near Port-Olry struck the same part of Vanuatu's coast on Oct. 24, 2026, prompting a tsunami warning that was later lifted.

By the time of its latest update, the agency had logged four reports from people who said they felt the shaking. USGS's impact estimate said, "There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage." Its ShakeMap, a scale of ground-shaking intensity, found "light" shaking, intensity IV, across an area of about 103,000 people, and "weak" shaking, intensity III, across about 5,790 more.
