Greece Issues Red Wind Warning for North East Aegean Islands as Attica Floods
MeteoAlarm, the European severe-weather alert service, issued a Red wind warning, rated Extreme severity, for Greece's North East Aegean Islands, set to begin at 02:00 UTC Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, and run until 07:00 UTC the same day, as flooding from the same storm system struck Attica overnight.
The alert extends the same storm system behind Greece's first Red-tier warning of the week, issued Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, for East Sterea and Evvoia, before Wednesday's warning, Oct. 14, 2026, opened a new zone and coincided with flooding farther south.
Flooding was reported overnight in four Attica municipalities, Protothema reported. The heaviest rainfall was at Perama, where the National Observatory of Athens' automatic weather-station network recorded 85 millimeters of rain in 24 hours by 10 p.m. local time Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, according to Protothema.
Greece's National Meteorological Service, EMY, upgraded its severe-weather bulletin to a red warning for parts of the country and an orange warning for Attica, Protothema said. The Greek Civil Protection Secretariat placed eight regions, including Attica, under Red Code mobilization from midday Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, through Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, according to Protothema.
