Tropical Depression Forms in Central Pacific Near Johnston Atoll

A new tropical depression formed in the central Pacific Ocean just east of the International Date Line on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, the National Weather Service's Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) said in Advisory Number 1, issued at 5 a.m. HST. The system, named Tropical Depression Three-C, was centered about 665 miles west of Johnston Island, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, a minimum central pressure of 1006 millibars, and movement toward the east-northeast at 7 mph.
The CPHC said there were no coastal watches or warnings in effect and no hazards affecting land. It advised interests in Johnston Atoll to monitor the depression's progress. Some slight intensification was possible later that day, and the agency said the depression could become a tropical storm within a day or so.
