La Plata River Floods Houses Near Farmington, New Mexico

Floodwaters from the La Plata River began inundating houses near Farmington, New Mexico, at the junction of Highways 574 and 170. Evacuations were underway there as of 9:35 a.m. MST on Nov. 2, 2026, the National Weather Service's Albuquerque office said in a Local Storm Report.
The river had already washed out sections of Highway 170 near Farmington a day earlier, on Nov. 1, 2026.
Two earlier Local Storm Reports from the same office that morning described additional evacuations elsewhere in San Juan County tied to the same flooding. At 7:30 a.m. MST, law enforcement reported a resident evacuated from La Plata River floodwaters near Highway 170 close to the Colorado state line, according to an earlier report. At 9:11 a.m. MST, fire crews were evacuating residences near Cedar Hill because of flooding along the Animas River, according to a second report.
