Floodwater on the Rio Chama washed out the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad bridge near Chama, New Mexico, on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, leaving the span unusable, the National Weather Service's Albuquerque, N.M., office said.

In a Local Storm Report, the office said images on social media showed large amounts of earth washed out at the bridge, where the railroad's tracks cross the river. The washout was observed about 10 a.m. MST near Chama, in Rio Arriba County.

The evening before, rising water on a tributary of the Rio Chama had already forced evacuations in Chama, the office reported Nov. 1, 2026.
