A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck 7 kilometers north of Balangonan, a barangay in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental province, in the southern Philippines, at 23:43 UTC on Oct. 27, 2026, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake originated 58 kilometers underground.

A second earthquake, magnitude 5.2, followed about one hour and 28 minutes later, striking 6 kilometers northwest of Balangonan at 01:11 UTC on Oct. 28, 2026, USGS said. It originated 46 kilometers underground.

Both quakes occurred at depths of 46 and 58 kilometers. Earthquakes at these depths generally produce weaker shaking at the surface than shallower earthquakes of similar magnitude. USGS received felt reports from seven people for the first earthquake and five for the second.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said no damage was expected from either earthquake.
