An international disaster-monitoring service, GDACS, raised its alert for the eruption at Kanlaon Volcano to Orange at 5:58 a.m. UTC on Oct. 12, 2026. The volcano is on Negros Island in the Philippines, near Bacolod City. GDACS said the eruption may have a medium humanitarian impact, based on the magnitude of the eruption, the exposed population and its coping capacity.

The alert followed a report from the regional Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre that Kanlaon is continuing to emit ash clouds; the advisory center's aviation alert level for the volcano is Orange. GDACS rated the eruption's maximum Volcanic Explosivity Index, a 0-8 scale of eruption size, at 2, and dates its onset to Oct. 10, 2026.

GDACS's population model estimates that about 870,000 people live within 30 kilometers of Kanlaon Volcano, and about 10.79 million live within 100 kilometers.
