Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, at a company event on Sept. 9. It starts at $1,999 in the United States, with pre-orders starting Friday, Oct. 16, and sales from Friday, Oct. 23.

Apple's release describes a phone meant to be carried closed and used open: shut, it runs on a 5.4-inch outer screen and fits in a pocket; opened, it presents a 7.6-inch inner screen for video, gaming and multitasking. Both screens have the same proportions, so content scales between them.

The body is titanium and the phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. It runs on a new Apple processor, the A20 Pro. A camera for video calls is hidden beneath the inner display.

Apple also calls it the thinnest iPhone the company has made. That is Apple's own measurement of its own product, as no independent testing of the phone has been published.

iOS 27 has been reworked for the folding shape. Apple says Lock Screen controls, the Dock and app navigation move to the side of the screen, the Dynamic Island runs vertically, and two apps can be opened side by side on an iPhone for the first time.

The phone comes in Star White and Night Sky, with storage sizes from 256GB to 2TB. Apple said that pre-orders open in more than 70 countries and regions, with more countries added from Friday, Oct. 30, and that support for the Apple Pencil with USB-C will follow later this year.
