Floods Spread to 43 Villages in Aceh Barat, Indonesia, Damaging Roads

Flooding spread to 43 villages across 10 subdistricts in Aceh Barat, Indonesia, by Sunday night, Nov. 1, 2026, with water levels averaging more than 30 centimeters, Antara reported, citing BPBD Aceh Barat, the district's disaster management agency.
The flooding was triggered by heavy rain that hit Aceh Barat starting Saturday night, Oct. 31, 2026, said Dharmawan, the acting head of BPBD Aceh Barat. "River water quickly submerged a number of residents' homes and main road access," he said.
A suspension bridge linking Kajeung and Tungkop villages in the Sungai Mas subdistrict was damaged, and the floor and structure of a house in Geudong village were damaged by the current, Antara reported.
No reports of fatalities had emerged from the flooding as of Sunday night, Nov. 1, 2026, though rainfall intensity remained high inland, Dharmawan said.
CNN Indonesia, reporting earlier Sunday, said the flooding had covered 12 villages across three subdistricts in Aceh Barat at that point.
