A magnitude-5.1 earthquake struck Portugal's Azores archipelago at 18:07 UTC on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, at a depth of 10 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The agency located it 39 kilometers west of Mosteiros, on São Miguel island.

As of Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, 9 people had submitted felt reports to USGS' Did You Feel It program. Portugal's public broadcaster, RTP, reported the quake felt across the islands of São Miguel, Santa Maria and Terceira, with the strongest shaking in the Ponta Delgada (São Sebastião) and Relva parishes of São Miguel. RTP and the Lisbon newspaper Observador put the quake's magnitude at 5.2, where USGS lists it at 5.1; Observador also reported a second, smaller earthquake, magnitude 3.4, felt in São Miguel.

The earthquake caused no casualties or damage, RTP reported.
