A Power Event Takes out Google's London Cloud Zone for Nearly Eight Hours

Google says a power event took out one availability zone of its London cloud region overnight, and its own incident record lists 38 affected Google Cloud products.
The zone is europe-west2-b, one zone of Google's europe-west2 region in London. Google's symptom line says Google Cloud services were unavailable there, and that some services in the wider europe-west2 region saw elevated errors and intermittent network issues. Its advice to affected customers while the zone was down was to migrate workloads to another zone or region where feasible.
Google timestamps the incident in US/Pacific time, although the affected zone sits in London. On that clock, Google's incident record puts the start at 23:08 on Oct. 19, 2026, and the end at 07:00 on Oct. 20, 2026, and the company's service health dashboard gives the closed incident a duration of 7 hours and 52 minutes.
The affected products Google names include Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Persistent Disk and Cloud Load Balancing.
On the cause, the record says only that a power event caused the outage in europe-west2-b and that the power event has been mitigated. It carries no further detail, and Google says it will publish an analysis of the incident once it has completed its internal investigation. The cause on the record is the company's own preliminary account.
The outage was recorded in one zone rather than across the region. Google's record puts the unavailability in europe-west2-b alone, describes the rest of europe-west2 as seeing errors rather than going dark, and names no affected location outside London.
